A few weeks ago we launched the social shopping module “Scan Hero”. It cought on pretty good but functionality was – to be honest – fairly limited. So we decided to up the ante: Scan Hero will be more interactive, more playful and more social! In detail that means:

• Implementation of a scoring system: Each tick will earn you points. For reasons of fair play the score will be reset at the beginning of each week, but you can see top scorer lists and check out who’s more active and who’s the most active (prizes for the most loyal Scan Heros are an option for the future).
• You can now talk to each other. Many of our users asked to be connected to other users and exchange opinions about products or anything else. Your wish is our command.
• In general you’ll get more notifications when there’s news about your Scan Tick. For example, if there are new comments or anybody else becomes Scan Hero of one of you products.
• Since we’re starting to become satisfied with Scan Hero’s functionalities we decided to move the button to use it from the very bottom right to the top of the result screen!

Plus, because we’re gaining every day almost more new Android users than iPhone users Scan Hero has been released for Android just now :) Happy Tickering!

Genetically engineered foods are a permanent controversial topic with substantial pro’s and con’s. Whatever opinion one may have, we think that every consumer should be able to know what it is that he or she consumes. And since, for the time being, the EU said no to labels on groceries we’ll have to find a virtual solution – once again.

For that reason, when scanning foods, you’ll find information on whether the respective producer is using genetic engineering or not, if our sources provide these information. Cool :)

p.s. At the beginning coverage will be much better in Germany than in UK and France (where we will launch very soon). Contact us, if you have any reliable and transparent sources.

Whatever next! barcoo cooperates in Germany with Coca-Cola. At first here’s some information on what it’s about: When scanning Coke products you’ll see a promotional reference to the new Coca-Cola small can. As with regular banners you can click on it to see alternating funny videos.

At the same time Coke promotes these cans on sampling tours where you can try them out. For those of you interested in the technical background: We’re using your phone’s GPS to locate you (if you wish and have approved that function) to show information as to where and when the next event will be in your area.

Of course we will continue to show our food traffic light and the sustainability footprint. All information will remain 100% independent which is one reason why we’re looking forward to extend our cooperation with Coke in the future. Go ahead and watch us closely doing so!
